What happened to the Google search window on Safari?
The answer is that Apple thinks that it is an improvement to have one window for searching and entering URLs.
I find this is really annoying because if I click on a search result, the search phrase disappears and is replaced by a URL. If the page isn't what I'm looking for, I no longer have the search phrase to edit.
Google Chrome has always been like this so Firefox is now my default browser and will remain so until this problem has been fixed. Worryingly, there are rumours that Firefox will also go this way so I won't be downloading any updates.
Another improvement in this version of Safari is that the tabs are evenly spaced so they are really huge if you have only two tabs open.
I'll contact customer service (<a href=http://www.apple.com/feedback/ target=blank>www.apple.com/feedback/</a> but I expect that like most customers services, their job is to explain why they are not going to meet their customers' requirements.
Edited to add: Oh, I forgot I shouldn't expect to receive a reply at all from Apple. Why did I ever buy a computer from a company that isn't advanced enough to provide customer support via email? More: http://www.mwls.co.uk/news/news.php?n=164
